How Many Niches should be on an Affiliate Website?

How many niches for affiliate website

As a short answer 1

denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialised section of the population.

concentrate on and become expert in a particular subject or skill. “he could specialise in tropical medicine” confine oneself to providing a particular product or service. “the firm specialised in commercial brochures”

What to choose

You need to pick something you love or already know about, the beauty of human nature is everyone is different, but some people are similar and all over the world there will be people that are interested in the Niche that you chose to talk about. It has to be a perfect Niche for you, think about what hobbies and interests you have and something that you are going to keep driven about, you wont get the traction and success you need unless you stick at it for a while, your website traffic is not a case of ‘Build it and they will come’ you have to work at it, regularly for at least 35 weeks until the search engines start taking your site seriously! The more Specialised you can make it the better your special keywords will rank. More about Keywords in another post, but as a tool to help you here is a tool I highly recommend called Jaaxy

Look for keywords on here that have high volume traffic (over 40 and the more the better) and are low on competition under 300 ideally around 100. After you run through about 15 keywords (brief description/something you would type in to search for it yourself) and get these scores you know theres HUGE potential for your website. Heres a search I did before I built this website about Wild Orange Essential Oil So this tells me 144 people search the term ‘Wild Orange Essential Oil Benefits’ on average (‘Avg’ column) every month! If I rank high for this keyword I would get 25 visits/Traffic to my website every month and this is because 22 competing websites (Quoted Search Results – ‘QSR’ Column). The KQI is the Keyword Quality indicator and this is like a traffic light system Green is Great, Yellow is OK and Red is poor. Now the SEO is only 96 so this is quite low so as I say aim for 100+ if you can the reason I still went for it is because I love the smell, use it daily and its one of my best sellers and I can talk about it a lot so I’m happy to go ahead and take a bit of a risk. I even managed to get the Domain name spot on which is also going to help it rank.

Don’t try and confuse people by talking about too many things I’ve been there, done that and wasted another logo’d t shirt! Do one website per niche, nurture it and watch it grow. Until you get to this point don’t start another one again I have done this and it gets confusing and like hard work and more hours. Grow the first one first!

  1. It is true that within a specific site, you provide one niche, which is the most suitable one. But how about a website such as .org, can’t it have more than one niche? Because I believe with an organization, you tend to cover more than one niche.

With detailed explanation about jaaxy, I love that system and great. Thank you

    • Hi I’m glad you love Jaaxy its so useful and I hope I explained it clearly. I see what you are saying about an organisation, but it depends what type? As a couple of examples of how to take a niche or focus on one product within an organisation, take a look at my youtube video here. Its an example of an mlm business, but the same approach could be used in other organisations.

      Thanks again, Sarah

  2. Great post and I’m pretty sure this will help for new people. In the beginning it can be hard to choose and easy to have many, and the problem that could occur is that you would put too many on it, I’ve already seen it. But I totally agree with what you’ve said 1 is really the maximum, and you will get lots and lots of good results by that.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing it!

    • Hey Emmanuel thanks for the comments. I really hope it does help new affiliate marketers. I certainly didn’t get it in the beginning and its taken me a year to really learn all this and now its clicked I want to share it so people don’t waste as much time as I did finding out.  The training is so great that we get at Wealthy Affiliate I wouldn’t have known half of what I do now if I wasn’t a member, are you?

  3. This is one mistake a lot of people make. They start a blog and before that blog starts to gain some traction they start another one and do the same thing and before you know it they have about 3 to 4 blogs without any of them making any good money.

Also if a particular niche is not targeted or narrowed down to a particular audience one might just spend a lot of time writing on their blog without actually connecting with their readers because the topics they talk about are probably too wide or broad.

These are some really good advice in which any blogger should really be focusing on.

    • Hi Jay thanks so much for your comments like you say its such a shame to spread yourself too thinly and its so important to interact with the blog readers, they are your target audience after all and want to see the content being regularly updated or they may well give up too.

  4. Thanks for this post, its very interesting and insightful. Firstly,  the way you broke down the process involved in selecting a niche makes it more simplified for a rookie like me. I was caught up in choosing a niche for my website and I got turn in between selecting a monetizable niche and my hobby for some weeks before I got it right. SEO has not been easy for me to master but I really like your approach from your personal view, it has simplified it for me. I will try to read more on it and how to maximize jaaxy.

    thanks for the post.

    • Hi you’re most welcome! Thanks so much for taking the time to read it and I’m glad it was helpful to you!

Good luck let me know how you get on.

  5. To me, the idea of choosing something you are really passionate about for a niche makes so much sense. On that same note though, I believe it must be something that you will not grow bored doing as it is as you say – you probably will need to stick with it for a time to see some results and conversions happening.

The notion of not being able to persevere with a niche will end up essentially as time wasted. So, probably something one should consider that is an already existing passion that has been with you for some time now and not something made up on the spot or in the recent? What do you think?

Either way, thank you for sharing all the insights (including the ones about keyword research).

    Have a Wonderful Day!

    • Hi Rasa Yes I totally agree it should be something that doesn’t bore you see an example here of an e commerce business I didn’t like or feel passionate about so it didn’t succeed see why I didn’t succeed in this page.

Thanks so much for your comments I hope you keep in touch.

  6. Good Morning Sarah,

On your About page I could read you are really happy with Wealthy Affiliate as it has all under one roof.

Yes, you are right in saying to choose 1 niche and make it narrow.

When I started in January 2017 I thought I needed 2 websites to be able to cover my many interests. It is handsful I can tell you and it is not focused enough on one particular thing.

As I have grown fond of these 2 websites I will continue with them even if, with all the material I could split them into 5 or 6 websites.

    Regards, Taetske

    • Hi Taetske

I love that its all under one roof, I can’t imagine if I had to log in to several different hosting platforms and remember my passwords each time to add to my blog or update pages.

Do you have a favourite out of the 2 websites? Could you maybe give one 3 months and see how you do?

I’d love to know more about your Niches, maybe eventually you could make a plan to release the other 5 or 6 in order 6 months apart?

I must admit I do struggle to stick to one niche as when I think of a new one I get too excited to wait! Lol! So it becomes like spinning plates in the air trying to keep them all healthy.

I appreciate your comments and need to take my own advice too.

      Thanks again

  7. I guess it is truly as they say. Take one step at a time.

For me, this definitely rings true because focusing in on a single niche per website, at least how I see it, people tend to trust you more. Because they are more willing to be convinced or simply accept the fact that you might actually know your stuff. And thus, trust you more.

An inversion to prove this point. Just imagine having 5 completely different niches on a single website. Niches that are in no way connected to each other. In essence, completely random (for example, dog food, money making online, diving gear and tips, tattoos, coffee making).

While these may be interests of a single person, I do believe it’s not the best approach to mix them all together in a single website (and as far as I can tell, you’re of this same opinion as well). I mean, WOW, it would be so messy. And people might get confused.

Ultimately, I totally get where you’re coming from. 🙂

Cheers, and have a Great One!

    • Hi Matiss

Nice one, yes life gets busy enough without spinning too many plates in the air. I’ve set up another couple of sites to this to give as examples to help me explain things, but theres no way I can give them the attention they need for good site health.

Just one is enough, especially if you work in a ‘day job’ too, like you say things can get really messy and confusing for both visitors to the site and ourselves!

I really appreciate your comments thanks Sarah

  8. Good evening Sarah,

This is just between you and me and of course, should not be published. I want to send my 2 websites so you see what I mean. As I said I have grown fond of them even if I could split them into various niches. Well, on the websites I have categories which do help some.

When I started my main focus was on spreading news, not on money-making. If it happens in the future it is of course nice.

Wishing you success with your website.

    Regards, Taetske

    • Hi again Taetske, both of your websites are beautiful I see what you mean, they are quite similar and cover some definitely niche but prominent topics so I really hope you raise lots of awareness with it.
Do you do much in the way of social media? Also if you have a newsletter following maybe set up an RRS feed if you don’t already have one?
