Affiliate Marketing for Donuts

Here you will find a set of basic information about how to start as an affiliate marketer.

First a little spelling spat lol.

The Official Dictionary Spelling of the word in question—if you’re into that sort of thing—is “doughnut.” The expedited, simplified, Americanised spelling of “donut,” as Grammarist tells us, has been around since at least the late 19th century. It didn’t catch on, though, until late in the 20th century.

Why? That’s when Massachusetts-based chain Dunkin’ Donuts first started taking off — so thank (or blame) Dunkin’ for the popularity of the “Donut” spelling.

The shortened—dare I say, optimised—spelling, “donut,” is no longer limited to Uncle Sam’s back yard, either. Grammarist finds examples of its use as far away as New Zealand and, *gasp,* the hallowed shores of the UK, guardian of the English language.

From the UK Independent: “Was it because the blog outed their favourite little-known coffee and donut shack, bringing hordes of unwanted tourists to their undercover hangout?”

I’ve called this article: Affiliate Marketing for Donuts for a reason: to get your attention. This is exactly what you will have to do as an affiliate marketing professional to succeed in this industry.

Using the humble Donut as an example, if you love donuts as most of us do, ‘donuts’ could be an ideal niche to do a Donut website on.

Let me expand, you own the donut website and the donut website could have, donut recepies, donut toppings, donut books, donut apparell etc all with paying affiliate links or affiliate adds throughout the site.

Someone searches ‘Donut topping recipes’ and thats one of your keywords, so all those donut loving visitors come to your website and see those ads and links, you get paid if they click….

Make sense? Don’t worry if not read on….

As you probably know if you have followed most of my other posts, affiliate marketing is an online marketing technique in which merchants pay commission to publishers, bloggers, website creators, who promote their products or services.

It has become the most popular ways of making money online for a reason:

It actually works!

While many businesses have complicated start ups, needing huge financial investement and lots of knowledge for the business to get started, affiliate marketing is a simple and FREE way to make money online.

Affiliate marketing for Donuts

Step 1. Work with proven affiliate programs only

What made affiliate marketing successful is its convenience for all involved. However, you might have also heard that it is a scam and you can only lose money on it.

Well, both statements have some truth to them.

Among genuine, established affiliate programs and networks, there are plenty of tricksters, con artists, fraudsters and scammers wanting to take advantage of your effort. Like everywhere. To avoid them, don’t let yourself be tempted by the promise of easy and quick money!

Affiliate marketing is known for its convenience, but it does not offer a shortcut to making money overnight. What you should remember is to stick to affiliate programs of companies with established position on the market (eg, with over 18,000 customers worldwide is what to look for!).

Proven affiliate marketing programs won’t lure you with promises of easy money and will not expect you to pay for joining them it should be FREE. They benefit when affiliates earn, so it’s their goal to engage with as many affiliates as possible.

2. Choose your niche

When you separate proven affiliate programs from those fake ones, it’s time to consider what niche would you like to be active in.

Choose ONLY topics you already feel passionate about so you don’t get bored and give up to soon.

Starting out as an affiliate, you might feel like the member of the exclusive ‘Affiliate Marketing for Donuts’ group. Following your passion is definitely recommendable to make this start at least a bit less uncomfortable. Just don’t forget to verify whether there is money in the niche, you want to get engaged to.

What’s equally important, you have to decide whether it’s better for you to work with independent affiliate programs or with large affiliate networks. Either of these approaches have its pros and cons but it would definitely be hard for you to efficiently combine your activity in both of them.

While affiliate networks (like Shareasale) are suited for affiliates with no particular strategy,

I’d suggest starting with you choosing Wealthy Affiliate .

Once wealthy affiliate partners sign up as premium members to wealthy affiliate, Jaaxy or related services, you receive a recurring commission for as long as they stay up and running. While a single premum membership is worth £11.25 a month, once referring a few more people reach up to £337.50 month value and once you have 200 people signed up that is £2250.00 a month at which point most people leave their day job! It’s easy to calculate what sort of flow of income can you generate with it as you can just keep sharing the expert knowledge which there is no selling involved as most people sign up for free and immediately see the benefits.

Once you gain experience then move on to SaaS affiliate programs (software as a service) like Live Chat if you want to work independently on a large scale. SaaS affiliate programs are usually much higher paying, due to the value of software they offer. While it may take a bit more effort to find a customer for B2B-oriented software, revenues from closed deals are incomparable. What’s even more enticing, some of SaaS affiliate programs sell monthly recurring licenses and – therefore – offer fixed recurring commissions!

The one I highly recommend is Live Chat Partner Programme.

What is LiveChat

LiveChat is an easy-to-use messaging app and help desk software for online sales and customer support.

3. Create your website

While former points considered your overall approach to affiliate marketing, this one is about taking action. Don’t hesitate to take it! There is of course a number of ways to become a successful affiliate marketer without a website but I’d definitely recommend you creating one. It will just make your work a lot easier and you will learn precious skills along the way that I certainly wouldn’t be without now.

Creating a website is easier than you might think. The whole process is quite convenient and can be summed up in 4 basic points:

  • buy a domain,
  • buy and set up hosting
  • install WordPress
  • install an attractive WordPress theme.

Many companies like GoDaddy offer bundle deals in which you can get domain and hosting services straight away and on the cheap. All you have to do is install WordPress CMS (Content Management System) and pick a dedicated theme for it. Fortunately, that’s not hard either. You can get both 100% free of cost. With the support of amazing tutorials on wpbeginner.com, you’ll be able to get your website ready within an hour. Your affiliate marketing related efforts will get a bit more professional with it.

However with Wealthy Affiliate, you can be walked through the process every step of the way and it includes hosting, keyword tools and seo training which brings me on to….

4. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

This depends on what affiliate marketing niche you chose.

Regardless of the speciality of subject or affiliate program you chose, it is essential to focus on: valuable content creation & SEO optimisation,

Once you find your niches and create a website, you need to fill it with valuable content. Whatever you publish on your website, it should not only be interesting and helpful to your readers, but also optimised for SEO.

For newbies to Affiliate Marketing including myself SEO can be extremely confusing.

This post on how to get traffic to a website is all about SEO.

What you have to remember is to search for RIGHT keywords related to your niche, instead of for the best ones and how to search for them you will find the Jaaxy Keyword Planner extremely useful here.

Try to optimize your website for phrases with min. 500 and max. 15,000 monthly organic searches. Those are usually relatively easy to get your content rank high in Google. That strategy won’t bring you millions of visitors overnight, but can attract attention of few potential customers everyday.

5. Give free value and promote

SEO optimisation is important to rank high on Google and draw attention of potential customers.

BUT!… the content you fill your website with has to maintain this attention and turn website visitors into customers of the products or services you sell as an affiliate. Popular ways of promoting affiliate offers include writing honest product reviews, using in-text content links, email marketing activities and offering discounts or special offers.

Brand yourself so people get to know like and trust your opinions.

It is important not to be too pushy with your efforts. Pushy or spammy promotion is one of the most common mistakes, ‘donuts’ make.

Ads don’t sell products themselves and too many products can be confusing and overbearing for the visitor.

They are usually the final element of the whole strategy, focused on providing an in-depth explanation of a problem and suggesting ways to solve it.

Affiliate marketing professionals call it: a presale content. This is what you should focus your efforts on. Make your content as genuine and insightful as possible and then use various social media channels and techniques to promote it.

Affiliate marketing is one of the fastest developing online industries now. It’s compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will increase by 10.1 percent by 2020, reaching an overwhelming total value of 6.8 billion dollars.

The business is big enough for everyone to get their share. With proper approach and commitment, even affiliate marketing beginners earn good money out of it!

Good luck!
